Obituaries



Jack Woodring, Sr.
Jack Woodring, Sr. 91, formerly of Lawson, died November 10, 2009, at the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services were November 13, at the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, with burial in the Lawson Cemetery.
Jack was born on January 30, 1918, in Wichita, Ks., the son of Claude Woodring and Dortha Snyder.
He married Lila Coen on November 9, 1938. She preceded him in death on January 31, 1995.
He served in the United States Air Corps during WW II.
He was employed with the Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1977.
Jack was a member of Bee Hive Lodge #393 Lawson, and the Aarat Shrine.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, DeDe and Max Shields of Platte City, Lonnie and Eric Canfield of Kansas City, and Lynne and Mike Briant of Lawson; one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Linda Woodring of Lawson; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by one grandson, Matthew Loner.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Salvation Army or the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Rachel Marie Fugate Tice
Rachel Marie Fugate Tice, 29, Lawson (formerly of Polo), died November 13, 2009, at Center Point Medical Center in Independence.
She was born May 16, 1980, in Kansas City and  lived most of her life in Lawson and Polo.
She married Jeffrey Tice on June 16, 2006. He survives her.
Mrs. Tice was a homemaker. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hamilton.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
She is survived by her children, Ashtyn, Damion, Dakota, Jordan, and Paige, of the home; her parents, Robert and Donna (Turner) Fugate of  Polo; her siblings, Kimberly Kosorog of Liberty, Bryan Fugate of  Liberty, and Kevin Fugate of  Excelsior Springs; her brothers-in-law, Terry Tice of  Lawson and  Richard Kosorog of Liberty; her mother-in-law, Rochelle Tice of  Kansas City; a grandmother in-law, Ruby McAfee of Birch Tree; and other relatives.
Funeral services were today, November 18,  at Bailey & Cox Family Funeral Service, Polo, with interment in  Prairie Ridge Cemetery.  
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Rachel Tice Memorial Fund c/o Bailey & Cox Family Funeral Service, Polo.

Leroy Junior Anthony
Leroy Junior "Joe" Anthony, 78, Lawson, died November 9, 2009, in Kearney.
Cremation with graveside services with full military honors on November 14, at the Old Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Joe was born on June 4, 1931, in Greenville, Ohio, the son of Leroy and Martha (Melford) Anthony.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.
He worked as a truck driver and was a farmer.  
Survivors include one son, Rick Anthony of Independence; three daughters, Willa Carroll of Excelsior Springs, Brenda Bennett of Kearney, and Julie Wilson of Polo; one sister, Mary Lou Troutman of Excelsior Springs; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Stella H. Wright
Stella H. Wright, 97, Richmond, died Nov. 15, 2009, at her home in Richmond.
Mrs. Wright was born Jan. 25, 1912, in Tina, the daughter of Clarence andFlorence Hayes.
She married John L. Wright of Hardin, on March 10, 1934. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1986.
Mrs. Wright was a lifelong Ray County resident. She was a member of the Hardin Christian Church and the Hardin O.E.S. Chapter.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith Pool of Kansas City and Karen Streiff of Smithville; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, G. W. Hayes; two sisters, Floye Gardner and Lena Hayes; and one grandson, Jon Keller.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ray County Hospice.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on  Thursday, Nov. 19, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens in Richmond.


Charles Eugene Pettus
Charles Eugene Pettus, 96, Elkhorn, died November 8, 2009 at the North Kansas City Hospital.
Mr. Pettus was born May 24, 1913,  in Ray County, to Charles Emmet and Gertie Alice (Patton) Pettus.
He married Mary K. Bates on June 29, 1941. She preceded him in death on June 18, 1986.
Survivors include three nephews and three nieces.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn T. Pettus; and one sister, Margaret Bellis.
Mr. Pettus was a retired farmer. He lived most of his life in Ray County.
He was a former board member of the Ray Carroll Grain Growers, the Missouri Farm Bureau and the Todd's Chapel Methodist Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Todd's Chapel Methodist Church or the Todd's Chapel Cemetery.
Funeral services were November 11, at Todd's Chapel, with burial in Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Janet Rose Adkins
Janet Rose Adkins, 75, Excelsior Springs, died November 10, 2009 at her home. Funeral services were November 16, at the First United Methodist Church, Excelsior Springs, with burial in the Masonic Cemetery, Excelsior Springs.
Jan was born on July 29, 1934, in Ray County, the daughter of Francis and Gladys (Chittick) Williams.
She was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Excelsior Springs and Beta-Sigma-Phi.
She worked in accounts receivable at the Excelsior Springs Hospital.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Larry Foster of Excelsior Springs; one brother, F.L. Williams of Excelsior Springs; three grandchildren; and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth Foster.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Excelsior Springs Educational Foundation for the Fine Arts Department.
David Love, Sr.
David Reed Love, Sr., 51,  Excelsior Springs, died November 9, 2009 at Excelsior Springs Hospital.
He was born December 1, 1957, in Carrollton, the son of Oscar Jethro and Maribelle (Carlson) Love.
He married Marilyn Sue Peel on July 3, 1977, in Independence. She survives.
Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, David, Jr. and Amanda Love of Independence; a daughter, Sonja Love of Kansas City; his mother, Maribelle Love of Kansas City; one brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Allyson Love of Kearney; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Julie and John Quick and Leigh Ann and  Doug Bias, all of Parkville; three grandchildren; his step-mother, Dolly Love of Lawson; a step-brother, Brian Henry of Overland Park, Ks.; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father on July 22, 2004; two grandmothers, Doris Love and Irene Goon and a grandfather, Norman Carlson.
David was a 1975 graduate of Winnetonka High School and grew up in the Gracemor area. Following graduation he was employed with General Motors as a line assembler retiring in 2007 after 30 years.
David had coached Little League in Blue Springs and Excelsior Springs.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services were November 15, at the Kearney United Methodist Church, with burial in the Missouri City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Spinal Bifida Association of America.  


Robert L. Bisbee
Robert L. Bisbee, 80, Kansas City, died November 9, 2009, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born February 16, 1929, in Kansas City, the son of Glenn and Elfa Bisbee. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1946 and immediately joined the U.S. Navy.
After serving in the Navy, he returned home to attend Finlay Engineering School, earning a B.S. in architectural engineering.
He worked as a sales engineer for Mid-West Conveyor for 21 years before founding Continental Steel and Conveyor Co. in 1971 and actively serving as president until his death.
He had many other business interests including real estate investments, the first trailer court in Kansas City, buying and renovating The Elms Hotel in Excelsior Springs in 1976, and getting a patent on a prefabricated structural panel for modular buildings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Dr. James O. Bisbee, of Stuttgart, Ark.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; four daughters and their respective spouses, Pam and Steve Watt of San Rafael, Calif., Dr. Jan LeBow of Trenton, Mich., Lynn and Roger Banks of Stilwell, Ks., and Tracy and John Mehki of Coronado, Calif.; a sister, Bonnie Goodson of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a brother Don Bisbee of Kansas City; his sister-in-law, Mary Bisbee of Stuttgart, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Dr. James O. Bisbee Memorial, Grand Prairie Job Center, 427 S. Maple St., Stuttgart, Ark.,  72160, or Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, Mo.,  64114.
Funeral services were November 14 at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home in Kansas City, with burial in the Elmira Cemetery.



Emma VanOster
Emma Esther VanOster, 85, Richmond, died November 9, 2009, in Richmond.
She was born August 11, 1924, in Callaway, Neb., the daughter of Joseph and Martha Jane (Rash) Palmer.  
She married Roy Junior VanOster on July 31, 1944, in Paola, Ks. He preceded her in death May 14, 1988.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; two sons, David VanOster on March 4, 1999 and Billy VanOster on October 21, 2009; five brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, LeeRoy and Carline VanOster of Richmond and Ricky VanOster of Farmington; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Beverly and Lewis Mallott, Cathy Wilson and Virginia and Tony Franco, all of Richmond and Linda Littrell of Meadville; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Mrs. VanOster was reared in Roscoe and lived in various places with her family. She moved to the Richmond area in 1959.
Emma was of the Baptist faith and had attended the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were November 13, at the Polley Funeral Home in Richmond, with burial in Woodland Cemetery, Richmond.


Gertrude Evangeline Albright
Gertrude (Gert) Evangeline (Moling) Albright, 74, Lawson, died   Nov. 12, 2009.
Gert was born on November 7, 1935, the daughter of  Robert and Eleanor (Crouch) Rigg in Kansas City.  She graduated from Manual High School, Kansas City.
She married Bud Moling in January, 1955. He preceded her in death in Sept .1974.
She married Robert Albright on July 9 1977. He preceded her in death  in May, 1987.
She was a member of the Old Union Christian Union Church in Lawson.
She was proceeded in death by her father, her mother, her husbands Bud Moling and  Robert Albright, and two brothers, two half brothers, and one half sister.
She is survived by her children and their spouses,  Steve and Teresa Moling of Golden, Dixie and Wilbert May of Plattsburg,  Sandy and Roger James of  Lawson; Dusty and Lisa Moling of  Holt; five grandchildren; three step-children; 10 step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; one  brother, Frank Rigg;  sister-in-laws Judy Moling, Pat Moling, and Ruth Rigg; and many other relatives.  
Funeral services were November 14, at Old Union Christian Union Church, Lawson, with interment in Prairie Valley Cemetery, Gallatin. The family asks that contributions be sent to her church located at 17990 N. Union Road, Lawson Mo 64062.
