Football Season Ends in Ray County

Ray County won't be represented in the dome at St. Louis this year as Lawson, Richmond and Orrick were all eliminated during the Sectional Playoffs on Monday night.
Pleasant Hill downed Richmond by a score of 21-20, Hamilton Penney broke Orrick's winning streak by taking a 51-13 win over the two-time state champion, and Maryville was able to hold on for 15-7 win over Lawson's Cardinals.
The weather was near perfect and the stands were full as the Cardinals and Spoofhounds battled it out.
In their preceding four games, the Spoofhounds downed Trenton 47-7, South Harrison 42-13, Bishop LeBlond 84-6, and Plattsburg 49-3.
Lawson's defense turned in an outstanding performance all night long starting with Maryville's first possession.





LHS Girls Cross Country
team finishes 3rd in state


The State Cross Country Championships were held at the Oak Hills Golf Club in Jefferson City this past Saturday, November 7th.  All four classes, 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A compete for their respective championships.  
The Boys Varsity race was scheduled for 10:15 am with 168 Runners toeing the line.  Wes Morrison finished 66th at 19:20 and Johnathan Peoples finished 71st at 19:26.  
The Girls Varsity race was scheduled for 9:00 am with 149 Runners at the starting line.  There were 16 complete teams racing for the Championship.  The top four teams are recognized at the Awards Ceremony for their top 4 finish.  The Lady Cards finished in 3rd Place overall and received the 3rd Place Trophy and each runner received a medal for their effort.  In addition, Joan Kessler, Karen Rose and Dawn Weir received ALL-STATE recognition for their top 25 finish.  Kessler, Rose and Weir received a medal for their ALL-STATE honor.  
Joan Kessler led the way for the Lady Cardinals with a 14th place finish at 21:41, Karen Rose followed in 16th place at 21:46 and Dawn Weir came in 24th at 21:56.  Brittany Weir came in 76th at 23:49, Kati Baker came in 79th at 23:59 and Amanda Mavel crossed in 90th at 24:12 and Jessica Korb finished 98th at 24:25.  
Joan Kessler received her third ALL-STATE honor and now ranks #6, #10 and #12 All Time State times for Lawson Girls.  Dawn Weir received her first ALL-STATE honor and now ranks #13 and #14 All Time State times for Lawson Girls.  Karen Rose received her first ALL-STATE honor and ranks #11 All Time State times for Lawson Girls.
